AFTER A LONG HIATUS.

March 9, 2016

Style Paws Melbourne Fashion Blog

So after what feels like the longest – yet shortest – hiatus of all time, here I am providing an update on everything Style Paws. For the two of you who may keep up to date with my life, I’m sure Instagram has filled you in, but regardless, a new year (um, hello March) means I am raring and ready to get back on this fashion blog bandwagon. Good habits die hard, or something.

“What have you been up to?” I hear absolutely nobody ask. That’s a great question. I quit my fun full-time job, started a business, and have been hustling like a crazy woman ever since. I’ve been contributing to the amazing website The Cusp, sponsoring things like the Melbourne Business Awards and spending a lot of time on LinkedIn. Is it exhausting? Yes. Am I happy? Superbly!

Why the change?

Well, honestly, it’s been on the cards since – forever. And I started to get itchy feet towards the mid-later half of 2015, where whilst working away in Priceline’s marketing team was fun – it certainly wasn’t what I intended on doing for the rest of my entire life. I longed for freedom, flexible hours and the ability to talk to my cat Indi all day. Why use up all your creativity energy, your enthusiasm, your mental capacity… on someone else’s dream? I certainly didn’t want to live the corporate life forever. So, I thought I’d register a business name, get a website up, start putting the feelers out there and before I knew it, I had been offered a client that would definitely need more love than I could offer whilst still working full-time. So I resigned! Voila, here we are today. A few more clients later, I’m certainly not living the high life (businesses = expensive) but I couldn’t be happier about my decision.

Which now means.. I have more time to focus on other projects I love – like my poor, neglected Style Paws. So hello there, it’s nice to be back!

TOP 4 BUDGET LIPSTICKS FOR EVERY GIRL.

July 9, 2015

Top 4 Budget Lipsticks for Every Girl

One of the things about working in beauty marketing is that gradually, over time, one-new-product-in-the-cabinet-at-a-time, you begin to develop a slight obsession with make-up. Prior to starting this job, I had the same stock-standard beauty routine that I did day in, day out. If I was going out at night, I’d add false lashes, boom, done.

However now, I’m all about micellar water/strobing/graphic liner/highlighting/contouring, etc, etc. And having tried nearly all the drugstore/pharmacy brands of cosmetics, I wanted to share with you my top 4 budget lipsticks that I can’t get enough of.

I don’t wear lipstick every day, but I think everyone should have at least one great nude, pink, red and dark shade that always makes them feel good. One of my friends told me her secret to always looking fresh, even when she’s absolutely exhausted, is just popping on a bright lip – instant colour!

Here are my picks:

Face of Australia Lip Quench in Lychee Crush

This is the perfect pale shade of peachy/pink. If you want something light, girly and that looks excellent on most skin tones, I think this is a winner. The formula is genuinely moisturising and feels great on. At under $10, it’s also one of the most purse-friendly beauty purchases you can make.

Rimmel Apocalips Matte Velvet in Meteoric Matte

I can’t tell you how many compliments I get when I wear this shade. It’s extremely on-trend for this winter, with dark berries and plums being everywhere, but it’s not as intimidating as some of the extremely dark shades on the market. I love the consistency and the brush makes it super easy to apply. I also find this shade makes teeth look whiter, who doesn’t want that?

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Audacious

Chubby sticks are so in this year and I can see why. Moisturising and smooth to glide on, the pigment isn’t as strong as some of the other formulas, but it lets you build it up to whatever you like. When it comes to reds, I like them to be more on the orange side – anything mandarin or tangerine is for me. I think orange-based reds are much cooler, younger and less serious.

Maybelline NY Colour Sensational Vivid in Fuchsia Flash

You can probably tell I have a thing for bold and bright. So Maybelline’s “Vivids” range is definitely for me. Though this is more a summer shade, I think it works beautifully all-year round to add a pop of colour to a black outfit. Luma Cosmetics by Jess Hart also does a fantastic bright pink!

KICK START.

October 10, 2013

I understand that this blog is beginning to sound like a Brag Book, where I’m literally only talking about my work achievements. So on that note, I’ve been included in Kickstart’s 30 Under 30 in the Fashion category, which is all kinds of weird awesomeness that I don’t really feel qualified for but shhhh, let’s keep that on the DL.

Anyway, now that we’re in the latter part of the year and I’m dragging myself out of my annual September Slump, I hope to populate this blog with something more interesting soon. In the meantime, you can check out the rest of Kickstart’s 30 Under 30 app here.

GETTING READY.

September 3, 2013

I’ve been pretty MIA from the land of blogging for the last few months, preferring to enjoy getting lost in other people’s worlds for the time being and frankly, being too busy with work-related writing commitments to even feel like sifting through my brain to try and jot down my thoughts.

This week is an exciting one though, as the magazine I have poured countless hours into has finally hit stores. You can pick up a free copy of “The Daily Us” from Sportsgirl stores around Australia. I wrote basically the entire thing so I’m particularly proud of the project and hope it brings a smile to many teenage girls’ faces (and yours too).

At the moment I am trying to figure out where or what direction I want this blog to take, so if you’re still for some reason, reading, thank you for sticking around. These won’t be my last words. :)
